"Bad boy... Time for a little punishment!"
― Wonder-Pink in battle, Operation 002-A

Wonder-Pink (real name Mariana Kretzulesco) is one of The Wonderful 101's protagonists. Pink is a Wonderful One, a member of a team of 100 special combat agents created by the CENTINELS Planetary Secret Service to defend the Earth from the GEATHJERK Federation Supreme Armada.

Your typical teenage party girl, Wonder-Pink's laid-back attitude and tendency to get distracted can make her come across as a ditz, but under the surface she's a competent gold-medal Olympic gymnast, and by far the most agile and fierce Wonderful One on the team.
Also known as the Queen of Rage, Pink's defining trait is her hair-trigger temper, and she's infamous for literally lashing out at her teammates whenever they get on her nerves, especially Wonder-Green.

Wonder-Pink joins the team in Operation 002-A wielding her Beautiful Whip, and is the default user of Unite Whip IconUnite Whip.

Wonderful File[]

Chosen to go to the Olympics in gymnastics while still in high school, Wonder-Pink is by far the most agile of any Wonderful One. She matches this with an advanced proficiency in melee weaponry, specifically with her Beautiful Whip, knit from a next-gen stay-press alloy "Belmont alloy," for which she is unrivaled.

Pink is known for her "laissez-faire" personality, behaving carefree and sunny during even the most severe missions, as if her duties were just another after-school club; however, it is that relaxed attitude that, more often than not, spells disaster for the team. Exceedingly sensitive toward trends, she has decorated her issued weapon with a variety of accessories, and her tendency to prioritize fashion over the mission can occasionally give her superiors headaches. Nevertheless, Pink's excellent physical aptitude and peerless acrobatics have led the team to countless victories.

Extremely emotional, she sometimes reveals her terrifying true colors when angered. Pink is especially sensitive to anything said by Green, and she will gladly turn her tormentor into her whipping boy when set off.

[The following paragraph is added after entering Operation 007-A]
Though at first glance she appears to detest children, Pink displays an unexpected caring side of her personality toward Luka after circumstances force them together. This change in her personality gives credence to the rumors that she is in search of her younger brother, said to be kidnapped by aliens.

Description[]

Appearance[]

As a trendy high-school student and Olympic gymnast, Mariana is an athletic teenage girl with pink-colored eyes, pronounced lavender eyelashes, and ankle-length pink hair collected behind her head with a cyan and white bandana. She wears a thin black vest over a blue polo shirt, with a popped collar and a pair of large amber sunglasses hanging from her collar, frayed jean shorts, and black high heels with brown fur leg warmers. She also wears stone-studded silver bangles on her wrists, a pair of heart stud earrings on her right ear, and a teddy bear earring hanging of her left ear. On close inspection, the teddy bear is actually wearing a Wonder-Mask and Shirogane Drive.

As Wonder-Pink, she dons a Wonder-Mask and a pink skirt-style CENTINEL-Suit, with a light pink jacket with popped collars brandishing the Wonderful Ones logo across its back. In this form, her pink hair becomes darker and glittery with purple streaks, and is tied into a high ponytail above the back of her head, with a loose bang parted to the left of her face. Pink's eyelashes are visible through her Wonder-Mask, and she now keeps her sunglasses on her head, but loses her earrings.
Like all Wonderful Ones, when Pink activates her suit's Unlimited Form a cape is released from the back of the suit and jaw-like plates extend from her mask, covering her mouth. When knocked out, Pink's suit vanishes and she's reduced black undergarments, although her sunglasses stay on her head.

Pink's issued weapon is the Beautiful Whip: a pink whip with a heart-shaped tip and pistol-grip handle, knit from "Belmont alloy". A variety of key chain accessories, such as a Wonderful One teddy bear, are attached to the whip's grip: custom decorations added by Pink.

Personality and Traits[]

At a glance, Wonder-Pink has a carefree and sunny personality, which at times can make it seem as though she doesn't take her responsibilities as a Wonderful One seriously. She's the stereotypical girl, with a love for fashion, parties, and boys, and a tendency to get emotional or distracted. Described as putting fashion before the mission, her habit of making sure her makeup is perfect, even underneath her CENTINEL-Suit, often results in her arriving "fashionably late" to missions. She often complains about having her makeup and outfit ruined in battle, or being overworked on long operations, although such complaints usually seem to be jokes.

But despite her quirks, Pink also possesses excellent physical abilities, such that she's considered to be by far the most agile of any Wonderful One, and she's especially fierce in combat, with a love for punishing her opponents with brutal attacks.

More than anything else however, Wonder-Pink is defined by her hair-trigger temper: also known as "The Queen of Rage", Pink is easily angered by pretty much anything, never hesitates in voicing her frustrations, and is highly confrontational toward others. Unfortunately, it's almost always her teammates angering her, as she has little patience (if any) for their eccentric behavior, whether it be beating back Wonder-Green and his hopeless attempts at flirting with her, calling out Wonder-Blue for being reckless, cutting Wonder-White's long-winded proverbs short, and so on.
While Pink's tendency to lash out at her teammates might sound bad at first, it also carries the benefit of helping to keep the team under control: putting a stop to everyone's antics before things get too far out of hand is practically her unofficial responsibility in the team.

Despite her temper, Wonder-Pink does have a soft side, and is more than willing to offer some encouragement or praise to her teammates if they actually manage to earn it. She's also a caring big sister at heart, and actually enjoys the company of children: a trait that resulted in her becoming overly attached to Luka after he began to follow the Wonderful Ones.
Pink is also a hopeless romantic, as evidenced by her suffering a severe care of love-at-first-sight after meeting Prince Vorkken, and spending much of his screen time desperate for his attention. Hypocritically, Pink seems to be completely ignorant of the fact that her infatuation with Vorkken comes as a complete annoyance to the rest of the team, and becomes highly defensive at any attempt to interrupt her.

In addition to using a lot of valley girl-esque slang and filler words in her dialogue, such as "um", "like", or "OMG", Pink speaks in a stereotypical Romanian accent, which includes unnecessarily rolled R's and sometimes pronouncing W's as V's.

Vorkkie Quotes[]

During battles against Prince Vorkken, Wonder-Pink gets multiple unique voice lines:

  • Her taunt is replaced with "Me first, me first!"
  • She gets two new random hit sounds when taking damage: "More, Vorkkie!" and "Too hawt! [deranged panting]"
  • On death she will scream "Vorkkie!"

Strangely, these voice lines aren't used in the encounter at the end of Operation 101.

Trivia[]

  • As Wonder-Pink originates from the Transylvania region of Romania, she naturally features various references to vampires:
    • Pink's issued weapon, the Beautiful Whip, is knit from "Belmont alloy", a fictional material named after the Belmont Clan, the clan of vampire slayers from the Castlevania franchise. Weapon concept art in the In-Game Gallery also reveals that Pink's whip was originally called the Belmondo Whip. Furthermore, Pink's use of a whip may have been the inspiration for her vampiric elements in the first place, as whips are considered the iconic weapon of the Castlevania franchise.
    • Whenever Pink gets infuriated and bares her teeth, vampire fangs are visible in her mouth.
    • Pink's last name, Kretzulesco, likely comes from Princess Catherine Caradja (also known as Princess Caradja-Kretzulesco), a Romanian aristocrat who claimed to be a descendant of Vlad the Impaler, the real life inspiration for Count Dracula. Lacking an heir, Princess Caradja eventually befriended and adopted a German antiques dealer, Ottomar Berbig. Ottomar Berbig, now renamed as Prince Kretzulesco, became famous for exploiting his adopted lineage through Dracula-themed charity events and other activities.
Nope, Totally Not

Nope, it was pure coincidence.

  • Wonder-Pink also has numerous similarities to the character Bayonetta:
    • Pink's "laissez-faire" personality, her playful yet brutal style of fighting, and her tendency to flaunt her sexuality is similar to Bayonetta's personality.
    • Though Pink is described as disliking children, she becomes attached to one during her adventures, just like Bayonetta in her first game. The fact that Pink becomes attached to Luka, who's heavily based off another character from the Bayonetta series with the same name, further reinforces this similarity.
    • Pink's high ponytail hairstyle is evocative of Bayonetta's beehive hairstyle from her design in the first game.
    • Pink's weapon, the Beautiful Whip, is extremely similar in design to Kulshedra, an unlockable whip weapon in Bayonetta 1.
    • During Pink's Wonder-eyes transformation cutscene, one of the poses she strikes is Bayonetta's pose from the Japanese box art of Bayonetta 1, and other promotional images.
  • There's a notable Easter egg involving Wonder-Pink at the end of Operation 002-C: should you fail the QTE to grab onto the Virgin Victory using Unite Whip, Pink gets distracted by a phone call and ultimately plummets to her doom. Initially, the call dialogue is sped up for comedic effect, but if the QTE is failed ten times then the dialogue plays at normal speed, revealing that the caller is actually Silvia from the Viewtiful Joe series, and the two quickly end up chatting about Joe (until Pink plummets to her doom.)
  • If you try to skip recruiting Wonder-Pink in Operation 002-A by using Wonderful Codes to unlock Wonder-Scarf early (another Unite Whip user,) the hook you must swing across to reach the end of the level will not function correctly without Pink on your team, preventing you from finishing the level without her.
  • Wonder-Pink is the only character other than Wonder-Red to prompt a Wonder-Jump QTE.
  • Because you never ask a girl how much she weighs, Wonder-Pink's weight is listed as "???" in her Member Profile.
  • Wonder-Pink's cellphone has the same key chain as her Beautiful Whip.
  • Wonder-Pink appears as a Trophy in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.
    • Due to the original Trophy's visible panty shot, Pink's Trophy was censored in the Japanese of Super Smash Bros for Wii U after the 1.0.6 update. The new Trophy is based on Pink's pose from The Wonderful 101's box art, and with her skirt noticeably tighter around her legs. Should you try to upskirt the new trophy anyway, you will find a black void underneath the model.
