"Dude, feel the sting of my Valiantium Blade!"
―Wonder-Blue's catchphrase

Wonder-Blue (real name Eliot Hooker) is one of The Wonderful 101's protagonists. Blue is a Wonderful One, a member of a team of 100 special combat agents created by the CENTINELS Planetary Secret Service to defend the Earth from the GEATHJERK Federation Supreme Armada.

Wonder-Blue is a cocky showoff with a flagrant disregard for authority, but he makes up for it with his undeniable skills and experience. As a veteran Wonderful One with an ego, Blue thinks highly of himself and believes himself to be the de facto leader of the team.
Naturally, the decision to place the rookie Wonder-Red in charge came as a shock to Blue, and sparked a brief rivalry between the two characters, as Blue is unwilling to take orders from anyone who hasn't earned his respect.

Wonder-Blue is one of the first playable characters in the game, joining the team shortly into Operation 000 Prologue. Wonder-Blue wields the legendary Valiantium Blade, and is the default user of Unite Sword Icon AltUnite Sword.

Wonderful File[]

A Wonderful One whose cover occupation is as a detective for the Los Angeles Police Department. Though young, he has gained experience and success in a variety of missions: taking down warring mafia families, counter-terrorism, and even taking part in military operations.

Having a strong sense of identity and a stronger dislike for authority, Blue is not the easiest Wonderful One to deal with in the organization; however, his ability to act quickly and make decisions in the blink of an eye has led to a chain of successful missions. Yet, despite these successes, his hotheaded personality makes Blue prone to losing himself in anger, peppering his record with a significant number of failures.

Blue insists on making a scene for everyone to see, so in combat he acts arrogant, taunting the enemy, and is prone to posturing into different poses that might look "cool". Unfortunately, reactions to his antics are conspicuous in their absence.

Poor at teamwork and preferring to work alone, Blue does not actively try to seek meaningful relationships with others. Instead, he accepts only those who are able to prove their skills, but this acceptance leads to a deep respect.

His weapon, the Valiantium Blade, is said to become sharper with every slice, forged with a special alloy able to cut through anything in the galaxy. His Unite Sword can deal lethal blows to even battleships.

[The following is added after Mission 009 of Operation 004-B]
As a young boy, he lost his beloved older brother to a nefarious GEATHJERK plot, leading him to despise the alien invaders with a deep-seated passion. His hatred and desire for revenge are especially strong against the GEATHJERK operative known as Vijounne.

Description[]

Appearance[]

As a detective working for the LAPD, Eliot Hooker dresses professionally but stylish. His outfit consists of a light blue shirt, with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows, collar popped, and the chest unbuttoned to show off his pecs. Eliot's shirt is tucked into his black pants, and he wears black shoes, a studded black belt, and a shoulder holster carrying his pistol and additional magazines.
Eliot's two-toned blue hair is long, tied into a ponytail at the back, and his long spiky bangs are parted to his right and partially obscure his face. Two "W" patterns are shaved into either side of his head, and he also has a small blue goatee. His eyes are light blue.

As a Wonderful One, Wonder-Blue dons Wonder-Mask and a deep blue CENTINEL-Suit, with a light blue jacket with popped collars brandishing the Wonderful Ones logo across its back. Blue's jacket is modified into a long trench coat, and his boots are only halfway tied/zipped and folded back down, creating an unusual "popped collar" look for his footwear. His hair remains unchanged from his civilian form.
Like all Wonderful Ones, when Blue activates his suit's Unlimited Form a cape is released from the back of the suit and jaw-like plates extend from his mask, covering his mouth. When knocked out, Blue's suit vanishes and he is reduced to black briefs.

Blue's issued weapon is the Valiantium Blade: a futuristic sword said to become sharper with each cut. The Valiantium Blade has a white grip with a red pommel and what appears to be a red button, and a complex hilt design consisting of a blue Wonderful One logo, three floating metal rings, and a rotary dial. The blade itself is metallic silver with a blue center.

Personality and Traits[]

"Blue is our lone wolf. He charges first, asks questions... never."
―Wonder-Green, summing up Blue to Immorta, Operation 005-A

Wonder-Blue is a self-centered and arrogant individual, whose confidence in his own abilities are such that he prefers to work alone when given the chance, or lead the way himself if he must cooperate with others: as a result, Blue often sees himself as the de facto leader of the team. Blue is also markedly reckless, and regularly jumps headfirst into danger without thinking, and at times even puts his personal motivations above his responsibilities as a Wonderful One.
Wonder-Blue is infamous for disregarding others until they manage to earn his respect. While most Wonderful Ones have already managed to earn his good graces by the beginning of the game, the latest member of the team, Wonder-Red, has not, and Red being selected to lead the Wonderful Ones sparked a significant rivalry between the two as Blue was unwilling to follow orders from a rookie.

When he isn't creating conflict, Wonder-Blue is basically the "jock" or "dudebro" of the team ("dude" and "bro" being words he uses heavily in his dialogue), and tends to have a flippant attitude in most situations, with a fondness for striking poses, acting cool, cracking jokes, and taunting enemies with "witty" remarks. Unfortunately, Blue isn't really as witty as he thinks he is, and his attempts at acting cool often attract the attention of Wonder-Green, who always has a good comeback to Blue's antics, to Blue's frustration.
To some extent, Blue and Green have something resembling a friendly rivalry going on between each other, as they regularly crack jokes at the other's expense... though Blue often escalates these back-and-forths to mild violence toward Green.

At first, Wonder-Blue was motivated purely by revenge, as it was revealed that he lost his older brother and only family to the betrayal of his brother's FBI partner, the GEATHJERK spy Vijounne. Blue even admits to becoming a Wonderful One purely to avenge his brother, and repeatedly endangered himself and the team attempting to do so after crossing paths with Vijounne again.
As a result of his past with Vijounne, Blue has some trust issues, and is somewhat paranoid about the idea of a GEATHJERK spy infiltrating the CENTINELS. Although a fear of aliens is reasonable given humanity's circumstances, Blue's distrust can cross into the realm of absurdity, as he not only rebuffed Immorta, accusing her of being a spy even after her repeated efforts to save the lives of the team, he also even became paranoid of Luka's possible motivations for wanting to join the Wonderful Ones (a paranoia that would actually prove to be correct.)

Blue mistakenly believed that no one else, least of all Red, could understand the personal losses he endured, and justified his reckless behavior for this reason. It wasn't until Commander Nelson chose to recount the loss of Red's father at the hands of Laambo to Blue did he realize that not only did Red also suffer losing his family to GEATHJERK, but that Red exercised restraint while face-to-face with his father's killer, and put the greater good above his personal motivations: something Blue failed to do so himself.
This revelation allowed Blue to finally develop respect for Red, accepting him as a leader, as well as pushing him to find restraint and to improve his ability to cooperate with others: something that would finally allow him to vanquish Vijounne once and for all.

Unite Sword Icon Alt

Wonder-Blue is a Unite Sword user, and the default user of Unite Sword unless changed through the Leader Select menu.

Wonder-Blue joins the team almost immediately at the beginning of the game during Operation 000 Prologue, when he and 18 other Sword and Hand using Minor Wonderful Ones meet up with Wonder-Red shortly into the level, enabling the use of Unite Hand and Unite Sword.
As such, Unite Hand and Unite Sword are the first two Unite Morphs available at the start of the game.

Wonder-Blue is also controlled as a solo character during Operation 004-A in a one-on-one boss fight against his rival, Vijounne. Blue is also briefly controlled solo during Operation 006-B, before the first mission begins.

Wonder-Blue is also highly unique among Wonderful Ones in that he is battled as a mini boss in a one-on-one fight with Wonder-Red during Operation 004-B.

Trivia[]

  • Wonder-Blue's design and elements of his personality are blatantly based off of Dante from the Devil May Cry series, a character created by Hideki Kamiya.
  • Wonder-Blue makes numerous quotes throughout the game:
    • "Let's rock, baby!" in Operation 009-B is a quote from Dante in Devil May Cry 1.
    • "Better run home to mama now," in Operation 003-A is one of Sarah Bryant's victory quotes in Virtua Fighter 2.
    • "Buzz off, bug-face! Or stick around and find out what a real sting feels like... The Valiantium way!" in Operation 003-C is a play on Dante's quote from Devil May Cry 1, "Flock off, feather face! Or you can stick around and find out the hard way!" This quote is also referenced in the first Bayonetta game.
    • "Never tell me the odds!" in Operation 009-A is a quote from Han Solo in Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back.
  • Wonder-Blue's English voice actor, Roger Craig Smith, is also the video game voice actor for Sonic the Hedgehog. Wonder-Blue's "We got a pain in the butt hedgehog to get rid of!" line when a Gedie Dough-Goo is first encountered is likely a reference to this fact.
  • Wonder-Blue dramatically slicing the falling pipe in half in Operation 004-A is a reference to Raiden's iconic finisher on the Metal Gear RAY fought in the prologue of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, a game developed by PlatinumGames prior to The Wonderful 101.
  • Wonder-Blue's pose when he activates his Suit's Unlimited Form before Battling Vijounne in Operation 004-A is a reference to Viewtiful Joe's boss battle transformation.
  • Vijounne transforming Wonder-Blue into a dog using her kiss attack during their battle in Operation 004-A is a direct reference to God Hand, a game developed by Clover Studio, PlatinumGames' predecessor. In God Hand, the boss Shannon has an attack in which she fires hearts at Gene to turn him into a Chihuahua. If she succeeds, Shannon will attempt to punt Chihuahua-Gene in an attack known as the "Soccer Ball Kick."
  • The Valiantium Blade appears in Bayonetta 2, wielded by the angels Valiance and Valor. Although this version of the Valiantium Blade has a completely different appearance, Valiance's in-game description suggests that it and Wonder-Blue's sword are one and the same.
  • Wonder-Blue appears as a Trophy in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, and as a Primary Spirit in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
