"Ah, once again you strike true, Christine Daaé, my gun, ma belle. Another life snuffed out by your exquisite charms!"
―Wonder-Green doting on his beloved gun, Operation 001-B

Wonder-Green (real name Jean-Sébastien Renault) is one of The Wonderful 101's protagonists. Green is a Wonderful One, a member of a team of 100 special combat agents created by the CENTINELS Planetary Secret Service to defend the Earth from the GEATHJERK Federation Supreme Armada.

Even though he's a gluttonous, out of shape middle-school student, Wonder-Green was selected to be a Wonderful One due to his incredible skill with firearms, and he has great pride in his ability. But despite all his skills, Green is still a kid: he panics at the first sign of trouble, is always eating snacks, and thinks missions are the perfect time to entertain himself by tormenting his teammates, with Wonder-Blue and Wonder-Pink being his favorite targets.

Wonder-Green joins the team in Operation 001-B wielding his beloved proton gun, Christine Daaé, and is the default user of Unite Gun IconUnite Gun.

Wonderful File[]

Chosen to be a Wonderful One due to his incredible skill with firearms and other ranged weapons, Wonder-Green is currently a mere middle-school student. Despite his youth, it is said that he can shoot through the hole of a donut a hundred kilometers away while eating a donut himself.

Possibly due to his privileged upbringing, he often seems to feel like the world revolves around him and is prone to ignoring the reality of his surroundings. He is also unwittingly rude, leading to occasional clashes with Blue and Pink - clashes Green himself seems unbothered by. In fact, at least with Pink, he almost seems to enjoy being scolded.

Even during the tensest of missions, he possesses a completely carefree nature - that is until something goes south. Then he instantly breaks into panic. Far clumsier than most would ever suspect for a Wonderful One, the care with which Green uses his rapid-fire proton gun Christine Daaé is another, more careful, side of him that holds great pride in his position. (Or so the world hopes...)

He has developed a close friendship with Black, as both are similar in age and love video games, comics, cartoons, and general mischief-making. This mischief-making extends to his love of junk food, a forbidden fruit under his parents, but a near constant indulgence as Green partakes in missions far beyond their strict reach.

Description[]

Appearance[]

As a middle-school kid, Jean-Sébastien is an overweight, rosy-cheeked boy with green eyes and green hair slicked back into a swirly cowlick, with a single loose bang. He wears a short sleeved, light blue button up shirt with a red bow tie, which is tucked into his green shorts that are held up by black suspenders, and brown loafers with socks. He also carries a leather satchel overloaded with candy slung over his shoulder, and he often has crumbs of food stuck to his face.

As a Wonderful One, Wonder-Green dons a Wonder-Mask and a green CENTINEL-Suit, with a light green jacket with popped collars brandishing the Wonderful Ones logo across its back. Green's outfit is overall similar to his civilian clothing, with lime green shorts and suspenders and a green satchel overloaded with candy on his hip. The only major addition is what appears to be a napkin over his chest, although his bow tie and Shirogane Drive are on top of it, defeating the purpose.
Like all Wonderful Ones, when Green activates his suit's Unlimited Form a cape is released from the back of the suit and jaw-like plates extend from his mask, covering his mouth (how he can keep eating his junk food remains a mystery). When knocked out, Green's suit vanishes and he is reduced to white stripped boxer shorts.

Wonder-Green's issued weapon is Christine Daaé: a rapid-fire proton gun resembling a futuristic water gun, that Green dotes on as if it were a person.

Personality and Traits[]

The jokester of the team, Wonder-Green is cheerful and humorous, and he always speaks his mind no matter the situation. Green is also of course a major glutton: while he supposedly behaves more seriously at home to appease his apparently strict parents, on missions he lets himself go and constantly snacks on junk food, even in the middle of combat.
But despite this carefree appearance, Green can be quite nervous, and is always the first Wonderful One to crack under pressure, regularly breaking down and panicking any time something goes wrong.

Blue Bullet

This doesn't help their relationship.

Green is also childishly rude to others, and thinks nothing of tormenting his teammates with jokes and comments for his own amusement, nor does he ever seem bothered when they inevitably lash back at him.
In particular, Green regularly annoys and enrages Wonder-Blue by teasing him whenever he tries acting cool or aloof: something that arguably helps keep Blue in check, even if it usually results Green getting a beatdown from Blue in return.
Similarly, Green acts utterly infatuated with Wonder-Pink, and regularly repulses her by flirting with her at every opportunity, often to the point of Pink having to resort to threats and violence to keep him away... which Green seems to enjoy.
Green's first time meeting Wonder-Red also reveals that he has an arrogant side, as he made a point of instructing Red on etiquette and forcing him to address him as "Monsieur Wonder-Green" after finding out he was new to the team. However, unlike Blue, Green is fairly easy to impress, and it didn't take long for him to start admiring Red's ability.

Perhaps the only truly friendly relationship Green has with anyone on the team is Wonder-Black, as the two are best friends due to their similar age and interests. And despite their constant conflicts, Blue and Green do seem to have some respect for each other thanks to their experience together as Wonderful Ones, and they can get along almost as often as they fight.

Still, despite Green's apparent shortcomings and mischief, he has incredible pride in his expertise with firearms: Green practically transforms into a different person any time he starts putting his skills to work, and he handles both his beloved Christine Daaé and Unite Gun with utmost care and compassion to strike down his enemies.

Green speaks with a heavy French accent, and has a habit of mixing French words into his English speech, for example calling Wonder-Red "Wonder-Rouge", crying for his "maman", and his signature expletive: "Sacre Vert".

Gameplay[]

Unite Gun Icon

Wonder-Green automatically joins the team during Operation 001-B, and is the first Unite Gun user in the game, permanently enabling the use of Unite Gun in all future levels and playthroughs. Green is also the default user of Unite Gun, and is automatically selected to use the Unite Morph unless he's unavailable or the set user of Unite Gun is changed using the Leader Select menu.

Trivia[]

  • Green's gun, Christine Daaé, is named after the main character of The Phantom of the Opera.
  • Green often exclaims "Sacre vert!" (Holy Green) in conversations, a play on the stereotypical French expletive Sacre Bleu (Holy Blue), which is a minced oath version of Sacré Dieu (Holy God).
  • Wonder-Green has the same voice actress in Japanese as Wonder-Black, Orine Fukushima.
    • In the Japanese version of the game, Green ends almost all of his sentences with the verbal tic "チ (chi)".
  • The "Zebes Burger" juice pouch Green is drinking in Operation 009 is a reference to the planet Zebes from the Metroid series.
  • Wonder-Green is mentioned as being honest to a fault in Wonder-Pixie's background information, and that they share a competitive rivalry.
  • According to his profile, Wonder-Green is assigned to Bordeaux, however his ID card shows that he's assigned to Paris.
  • Wonder-Green is one of two characters with multiple hobbies (Cartoons, Comics, Video Games) listed in their profile, the other being Alice MacGregor.
  • What appears to be an early concept for Wonder-Green can be found in the collage of early Wonderful One designs viewable in the in-game Art Gallery: the design in question is an illegibly named fat character in a green suit with a purple mohawk eating pizza and popcorn, which likely served as the basis for the character that would eventually become Wonder-Green.
    • The design of Wonder-Green's weapon may have been finalized later in development, as the Art Gallery also contains art of Green's final design carrying the silhouette of a realistic rifle as a placeholder.
  • Wonder-Green appears as a Trophy in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.
